Understanding and Treating Infidelity: An EFT Perspective

This model proposes that there are six distinct types of affairs:
1) Protest Affair |
4) Escape Affair |
2) Attention Seeking Affair |
5) Hedge Fund Affair |
3) Burned-Out Affair |
6) Power Player / Compulsive Affair |
These types differ in terms of the partners’ specific attachment insecurities, action tendencies, and emotions that emerge in attempt to meet attachment needs. The model also explains the interactive patterns that couples develop as a result of these ineffective and destructive attachment seeking patterns. Specific strategies and interventions for healing couples’ bonds after infidelity are outlined. Challenges that are specific to each of the types of affairs, as well as treatment interventions for addressing those particular challenges, are also be presented.

Course Goals and Objectives
Participants will learn the following:
- Distinguish between commonly held myths and realities about affairs
- Identify and understand the most common types of affairs seen currently.
- Understand the particular dynamics of each type of affair, including treatment challenges and effective interventions
- Learn specific ways of utilizing EFT to address the attachment injury of the injured partner
- Learn specific ways of utilizing EFT to assist offending partner in becoming an agent of healing for the injured partner
- Learn how EFT can be utilized to facilitate the development of a secure attachment bond between partners dealing with the aftermath of an affair
